February Meeting Notice – Featuring a Candidate Forum

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, February 16 at the Looking Glass Restaurant at 329 Warfield Blvd. Due to the candidate forum, we are moving our meeting up by half an hour – please note the different times for this month only.  Dutch treat breakfast will be at 9:00 am, with the business meeting to start at 9:30, and our candidate forum to begin at 10:00.

If you plan to eat breakfast you must RSVP to Karel Lea Biggs via email (karelleabiggs@charter.net) or text (931-217-4018) by noon on Wednesday prior to the meeting. (Text is best)

A few things to know:

In order to streamline the process, this is how breakfast works:

  • You will prepay for your breakfast. Just go to the cash register and pay for what you want, then just show your receipt.
  • This eliminates Joseph having to run around to get out all the tickets. It also means that if you have to eat and run, you’ve paid and can go when you want – no waiting around for your ticket.

Hopefully this will make it easier on everyone!

Our February Speaker:

TFRW President, Barb Trautman

Please join us as we welcome TFRW president Barbara Trautman as our featured speaker. She has served as a volunteer for Republican candidates in local, state & national campaigns for over 25 years.

Barbara has worked on 5 TFRW Convention committees, served as a 2 term Area Vice President, and the Campaign Committee Chair. She has received the Republicanism Award & the Grassroots Campaign Award from the Shelby County Republican Party at their last 2 Lincoln Day Events.

She is married to Dr Bob Trautman for 46 years and has 2 sons and 2 granddaughters.

Barb will be doing a brief presentation on How to Tell if You’re a Republican (because, obviously from what we’ve seen this year, there is some confusion), and then will be the moderator of our candidate forum.

Candidate Forum for

State Senate District 22

Due to the election for former State Senator Dr. Mark Green to the U.S. House of Representatives, his seat is now open for the remainder of his term.  As such there will be a Republican Primary on March 7th to determine the Republican candidate to run in the general election for the seat to be held on April 23.

Red River Republican Women will be hosting a Candidate Forum for the four qualified Republican candidates who are vying for this seat after our regular meeting on Saturday, February 16.  The event will begin at 10:00 am and will be moderated by Tennessee Federation of Republican Women President Barb Trautman.  Candidates who have been invited are Betty M. Burchett, Jeff Burkhart, Jason D. Knight, and Bill Powers.

The format of the forum is fairly straight forward.  TFRW President Barbara Trautman will introduce each candidate and will permit each one to have a one minute opening statement.  She will then ask prepared questions on a variety of topics of local interest which have been contributed by members and associate members of Red River Republican Women.  Each candidate will then have a one minute closing statement.  Please note that this is not a debate, but rather a forum.  After the forum the candidates will have an opportunity to mingle and meet with our members.
