Our September Meeting – Everything You Need to Know About School Zoning and Planning for Growth!

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, September 21 at the Looking Glass Restaurant at 329 Warfield Blvd. Dutch treat breakfast will be at 9:30 am, with the business meeting to start at 10:00.

Clarksville Montgomery County School System has been in the news lately due to our growth issues.  A proposed middle school was cancelled by the County Commission and now we’re seeing overcrowding at schools throughout the district.  So just what goes into zoning for schools and deciding about building new ones?  Mr. Sumrell is the guy to help educate us on this vital issue.

Jim Sumrell grew up in northeastern Ohio.  His work experience includes 20 years of service in the United States Army where he served as an airborne infantryman (Paratrooper) retiring as the First Sergeant of the Sabalowski Air Assault School at Fort Campbell, KY in 1994.  After leaving the Army Jim spent the next 10 years as a Logistics Manager for American Standard Inc. (at that time the corporate parent of the Trane Company).   Jim assumed his current role as the Chief Operations Officer of the Clarksville Montgomery County School System in August 2004.  In his current role he is responsible for managing the District’s – Student Transportation, Vehicle Maintenance, Facilities Management, Building Maintenance, Custodial, and Child Nutrition Departments.  Jim and his wife Vanessa live in Clarksville.  They have four children and six grandchildren.

And in case you’re curious, he’s the guy who decides on whether or not we have a snow day!

If you plan to eat breakfast you must RSVP to Karel Lea Biggs via email (karelleabiggs@gmail.com) or text (931-217-4018) by noon on Wednesday prior to the meeting. (Text is best, just be sure to tell me who you are in case I don’t recognize the number)
