We will start as usual at 9:45 am, with the business meeting to start at 10:00. Breakfast will not be served but there will be a coffee bar and donuts.

Our speakers this month will be Representative Jeff Burkhart and Senator Bill Powers. With the Tennessee General Assembly in session, our elected officials will be speaking on some of the legislation that is pending, with a focus on educational issues. A big issue this session is the Third Grade Retention law, and they would like input from those of us who are parents and educators.
Small business owner Jeff Burkhart represents District 75 here in Montgomery County. A graduate of Northwest High School, he has a degree in Fire Science and is a former Assistant Fire Chief for the Clarksville Fire Department. He currently serves on a number of legislative committees, including the Commerce, Committee, the Transportation Committee, and the Elections and Campaign Finance Subcommittee.
With his roots in the automotive industry as managing partner of local business Wyatt-Johnson Automotive Group, Bill Powers represents Senate District 22. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, at Knoxville, he has been active in a number of community organizations including the CMCSS Education Foundation, The Economic Development Council of the City of Clarksville, and Board of Governors of the University of Tennessee. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Education Committee, and serves on the Finance, Ways and Means Committee and the Transportation and Safety Committee.
